Newbury Primary School

Newbury Primary School, a government school, serves students from Years Prep through 6. It is located in Craigieburn’s north west growth corridor and has seen a rapid increase in population. It opened in 2017 and has more than 1000 students. The Prep to Year Two levels is the most popular, with a high percentage of students learning English as an additional language.

Newbury Primary School is proud to offer a safe, secure, and educationally stimulating learning environment. As a way to develop confident, creative, compassionate, and engaged citizens in their communities, they place emphasis on every student’s academic, emotional, and social development. A strong sense of community can be seen in the open, honest, and continuous dialogue among all stakeholders.

Teachers work together in learning communities to develop and plan learning programs that cater to students’ individual learning needs. All aspects of school life are guided by high standards. Respect, integrity, effort, and community are all part of the school’s culture. Newbury Primary School boasts an EAL population at 83%. There are 33 languages spoken, including English, Hindi, Hindi, and Arabic.

The Resource Smart Schools initiative offers practical support for schools to reduce their resource use, make cost-savings, integrate sustainability into their curriculum, and share lessons beyond school gates. This program helps schools to reduce their costs and gives students the chance to learn about sustainable practices. They strive to be Resource Smart schools and achieve their first star.

Every Wednesday at Newbury Primary School, Waste Free Wednesday is celebrated. They ask that no trash, chips packets, or cling wrap is brought to school on this day. This helps them protect the environment. Next time you pack lunch, think of how you can make your child’s lunch more waste-free. Every newsletter contains new tips and tricks to help students reduce their waste. The newsletter also features the award for the class with the lowest waste lunches. Visit the Newbury children and parents who are superstars!

Newbury is beginning to revive and re-establish its composting program. They have new composting bins near their greenhouse. After these bins are officially opened, students will be taught about composting and encouraged to bring in their vegetable and fruit scraps for their composting bins. There are many benefits to composting at Newbury. One of the most important is that their Kitchen Garden will be enriched with nutrients, and their vegetables, fruits and herbs will grow.

Their school now has a larger and more efficient greenhouse. We are very grateful to Mr. Brett, and Mr. Wayne for their hard work in creating an area that students and teachers can enjoy and take pride. Students will soon be able to use the greenhouse to grow new plants in warmer climates before they move on to the Kitchen Garden.
