JB Hi-Fi was established in 1974 by Mr. John Barbuto (JB) operating from a single location located in East Keilor, Victoria. The company’s philosophy was simple of providing a specialized collection of Hi-Fi as well as recorded music at the most affordable costs.
The company was sold in 1983, and in 1999, another nine stores had been opened. In July 2000, JB Hi-Fi was purchased by private equity bankers as well as top management with the intention to expand the model to the national level.
