Carl's Jr. Greenvale
The company's founder Carl N. Karcher was born on 16 January 1917 from Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He graduated from school in the 8th grade to help his parents with the farm of their family.
As a young man Carl relocated out of Ohio and moved to Anaheim, California, where the teen worked for 12 hours seven days a week working at the feed store of his aunt store and seed store. The year 1939 saw Carl became bread wrapper for Armstrong Bakery in Los Angeles and was soon promoted to a delivery and sales job. In the same year, he got married to Margaret Heinz - a marriage that lasted nearly 66 years. It also resulted in 12 children with 51 grandchildren, as well as 45 great-grandchildren.
On the 17th of July 1941 Carl along with Margaret purchased the hot dog cart for $326 with cash of $15 and $311 borrowed from the 1941 Plymouth Super Deluxe. First day's earnings were $14.75. The company grew rapidly, and on the 16th of January 1945 Carl inaugurated Carl's Drive-In Barbecue in Anaheim, California. One of the first Carl's Jr. restaurants opened in 1956.
Margaret died in 2006 Margaret passed away in 2006, and Carl passed away in 2008 leaving behind an inheritance that continues to increase in the world.
Carl was a devoted board member and supporter of a variety of non-profit organizations. He also promoted community involvement within the business he founded. He was the chairman of both the 1979 and 1978 Orange County United Way campaign and raised over $18 million.
His wife Margaret was generous and enthusiastically donated to many organizations, and have been long-time supporters of groups such like Providence Speech and Hearing Center and Lestonnac Free Clinic.
