Brass is a brightly coloured alloy made of Copper and Zinc. Brass is more malleable than bronze and zinc. It is also very easy to cast due to its low melting point (900-940 Deg C). This makes it ideal for many household applications.
The amount of zinc in an alloy determines the colour of brass. A greater quantity of zinc will result in a more luminous metal. The alloy becomes more soft as the zinc content increases, with the most delicate brass type (white brass) being too fragile for general use.
Brass is often treated with silicone or lead to improve its machinability. Safety and contamination issues mean that brass with silicone cannot be mixed with scrap leaded brass.
Brass is used where low friction is needed, such as in taps, ammunition casings or locks, bearings, and gears. The most well-known use of brass is in musical instruments like the tube, trumpet, and saxophones.

Brass is an alloy made from a mixture of metals. To create brass, copper and zinc must be furnished before they can be combined to make brass. This creates a lengthy manufacturing process that can be reduced by recycling old items.
